Anti-Narcotic Welfare Organization (ANWO) was founded by Dr.Muhammad Tariq Khan in the year 1991. The ANWO was registered by the Directorate of Social Welfare Government of Sindh under the Registration No. DSW (5)-811/91. The Anti Narcotic Welfare Organization (ANWO) takes start from the University of Karachi , as Student Social Welfare Organization with main target to work against Smoking among Students in the Campus and motivate the students to abandoned this harmful habit. Mainly the Karachi University Student Welfare Organization (KUSWO) former name of present Anti Narcotic Welfare Organization was consisting of students from Social Welfare Department. The selfless efforts and true guidance provides unexpected results. Former Karachi University Students Welfare Organization (KUSWO) provided all possible support to the families of the addicts. Provided information about addiction to the students whom themselves worked against addiction and also supported in preparing research thesis on the problem of addiction, for the social work' students who had their research theses on the topic of narcotic addiction.

Besides providing help to the addicts, ANWO also extended various facilities to the families of the addicts. Helped the family, members to get jobs and rehabilitation. Also provided all possible help to the Sons, Daughters and Sisters of Addicts to get education.
